Frankfort, KY – In the wake of Tuesday's primary election, Kentucky Republicans tomorrow will hold a unity rally at state GOP headquarters in Frankfort. But as Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh reports, a prominent Democrat is trying to poop the party.

Senate President David Williams grabbed the Republican gubernatorial nomination Tuesday and will be a key speaker at the GOP rally. Other Republican nominees for state constitutional offices will also say a few words.

But Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear is already trying to dampen GOP spirits by announcing Republican support for his re-election bid.

The Beshear campaign has released the names of 70 prominent Republicans supporting the Beshear campaign in the fall, and says more names are on the way.

Among those on the list are former Jefferson County GOP Chairman Jon Ackerson, former Lt. Gov. Steve Pence, the mayors of Lebanon, Harrodsburg, Bardwell and Versailles and Lexington businessman Michael Scanlon.

Gov. Beshear had no Democratic primary opposition on Tuesday.
