Annual Trent DiGiuro Foundation Fundraiser Is Tommorrow

The family of a murdered UK football player continues to triumph over tragedy.

Two decades have passed since Trent DiGiuro was shot and killed while he celebrated his 21st birthday with friends on the front porch of  his home just off campus.  Years of investigations and finally trials and a guilty plea by the man who pulled the trigger could have shattered the strongest of families.  But Trent’s father Mike DiGiuro tells us, they decided early on to put their energy toward honoring their son.  The Trent DiGiuro Foundation was born.

“We raise funds for the Trent DiGiuro Foundation and the foundation funds scholarships for graduating seniors at the three high schools in Oldham County."  Mike DiGiuro said "We also have a scholarship within the football program at the University of Kentucky so we’re right around 70 people (scholarships given) with all those programs that we’ve got.”

Mike DiGiuro said his son’s high school friends from Oldham County helped start the organization 18 years ago and “they’ve never stopped being the driving force behind it.”  And they’ll be raising funds tomorrow to create even more scholarships at the third annual Trent DiGiuro Foundation Day Polo Match from 3 until 7 at Hardscuffle Farm in Prospect.  It features a polo match, free activities for the kids, food, live music, a silent auction and prizes for the best tailgating theme.
