2 Men Plead Not Guilty In Kentucky Bourbon Theft Ring

Karyn Czar

The final two of nine defendants originally charged in a central Kentucky bourbon theft ring have pleaded not guilty.

The Courier-Journal reports 42-year-old Dustin Adkins and 49-year-old Mark Searcy pleaded not guilty to an organized crime charge at their arraignments in Franklin Circuit Court on Friday.

Investigators say Adkins and Searcy took part in a scheme that involved tens of thousands of dollars in whiskey being stolen since 2008. Two defendants already have pleaded guilty to a lesser charge

Investigators say Adkins has admitted accepting a barrel from Gilbert Curtslinger, who investigators say was the ringleader.

Searcy, who drove a truck at the Wild Turkey distillery in Anderson County, is accused of providing Curtslinger with barrels.

Adkins' attorney Amy Duncliffe declined to comment on Friday.
