101st Commander To Address Deployment, Ebola

The commander of the 101st Airborne Division is set to address the unit's deployment to Africa in a teleconference Thursday morning.

He'll provide details on the mission that has soldiers helping to build care centers and training health care workers in an area stricken with Ebola.

Maj. Gen. Gary Volesky will speak with reporters at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, hours before holding a similar briefing during a town hall meeting with the families of service members that evening.

Roughly 700 soldiers from the military post on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line were sent to West Africa last month. They are among 3,000 troops the U.S. plans to send to Africa.

Families of some soldiers have expressed concerns about the deployment and how the soldiers will be handled before returning to the post on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line.
