City - Community Leaders Rally In Support Of Beshear's Budget

Lexington, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and Lexington City leaders presided over a rally of sorts in support of the governor's proposed budget. To address an estimated 456 million dollar deficit, Beshear's spending plan calls for 4 percent cuts for various state agencies, while protecting others. Beshear says primary and secondary education, local college and university funding, and mental health care represent his three highest funding priorities.

Lexington, KY – CASE stands for Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. WUKY News Dirctor Alan Lytle, won an award of "Excellence" for his two part series on Lexington's Summer Youth Employment Program, and WUKY jointly received a "Grand" Award with UK Libraries for an ongoing series of reports with the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History.

KY Electoral Votes Cast For McCain

Frankfort, KY – Democratic Senator Barack Obama may be the President-elect, but all eight of Kentucky's Electoral College votes went to Republican Senator John McCain on Arizona. That's because McCain carried Kentucky by more than 300-thousand votes. Elector James Snider of Franklin represents Kentucky's 1st Congressional District. "It's exciting to be part of history and know that your name and your vote is going to be recorded in the federal register, and that you'll be a part of history."
