Ky. Lawmakers Pass Suicide Prevention Bill

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – The Kentucky general assembly has given final approval to suicide prevention legislation. The measure requires suicide prevention training for school principals, counselors, and teachers.

But Louisville Senator Dan Seum says he's disappointed the final bill doesn't require training for elementary level staff.

"The original House bill had some items for the grade school kids so this is big plus, obviously in my opinion it could have been a little bit better but it's still a big plus."

Budget Talks Holds Up State Legislative Calendar

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – Kentucky lawmakers are taking Tuesday off to allow budget negotiators more time to complete their work.

House Speaker Greg Stumbo says the two sides still can't agree on one billion dollars in bonded school, highway and bridge projects. The projects were approved by the by the House but excluded in the Senate budget version.

Delaware, Tennessee, Not KY To Get First Round of "Race To Top" Grants

Lexington, KY – Tens of millions of federal dollars will not be coming to Kentucky schools in the near future. On Monday, the U-S Department of Education announced Delaware, and Kentucky neighbor Tennessee, as the two states that will be awarded the first round of "Race To The Top" education grants.

Kentucky Department of Education spokesperson Lisa Gross says they're disappointed, but not discouraged.

300+ Job Openings Now Available in Central, Eastern Ky.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – A technology and consulting firm is holding up a big "help wanted" sign. Affiliated Computer Services has openings for 320 jobs in Kentucky; 270 in Lexington and 50 in Pikeville.

ACS Spokesman Chris Gilligan says the company is hiring immediately.

"There are a variety of positions. There are some customer care or call center agent positions and some supervisory positions as well."

Budget Negotiations Continue

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- –

After five days of off-and-on, closed-door negotiations, Kentucky House and Senate budget conferees are still searching for a final agreement on a new state spending plan.

The original goal was to be finished by Sunday, but when the talks broke off Sunday night, no agreement was announced.

Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers says an adjustment to the legislative calendar may be necessary to finish the talks.

UK Hoops Headed To Elite Eight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- – The Kentucky women's basketball team keeps adding to its record-setting season.

A'dia Mathies scored 21 points, helping the Wildcats to a 76-67 win over top-seeded Nebraska Sunday night. The UK Hoops team led by as many as 19 points over the Big 12 champs.

UK next faces No. 3-seed Oklahoma on Tuesday in the Kansas City Regional final of the NCAA tournament. Tip-off is set for 9pm EDT.
