Community College Looks Ahead to Long Transition

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Work should begin next spring on a new Bluegrass Community and Technical College campus off Lexington's Newtown Pike. Over time, the college will move students from its Cooper Drive complex to what's now the site of Eastern State Hospital.

The college's plans were detailed Tuesday when President Augusta Julian appeared before Lexington's Urban County Council.

"We certainly need additional renovation funds. We need road and intersection upgrades. We may find more burial sites."

UK Football Player Apologizes For Critical Tweets of Fans

Lexington, KY – Randall Cobb says he is sorry for posting tweets highly critical of UK football fans. The junior receiver, who caught the game-winning touchdown pass last week against South Carolina, says he knew almost immediately after posting the remarks, that he shouldn't have done it.

Chandler and Barr Debate Role of Federal Government

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky's 6th district congressional candidates met in Lexington Monday night in what could be their only debate of the general election. Republican challenger Andy Barr came out swinging against Democratic incumbent Ben Chandler.

"The reason why there's not more participation in the labor force is that government is interfering with entrepreneurs and the ability of entrepreneurs to invest. The cause of our continuing problems is that government is trying to do too much."

Tempers Flare During Latest Conway - Paul Debate

Louisville, KY – Democratic candidate Jack Conway and Republican Rand Paul began the event trading jabs about a recent ad from Conway's campaign that criticized pranks Paul was allegedly involved in as a college student. Paul called Conway a disgrace to Kentucky before the two moved on to a policy debate. Conway frequently brought up previous statements from Paul in an effort to paint the Republican's small-government platform as too extreme.

Symposium Questions Art Ownership

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Gaines Center for the Humanities at the University of Kentucky kicks off a week-long series of events Monday examining the ownership of art and other cultural property. Center director Robert Rabel says the Bale Boone Symposium is assembled around a central theme.

"This symposium really springs from the current interest in what is intellectual property? Who owns antiquity? Who properly owns artifacts that you find in museums? All of these questions have become much more pertinent today because of the Internet."

Coach Cal Readies Big Blue Faithful For Next Campaign

Lexington, KY – Thursday at the annual UK basketball media day, UK Coach John Calipari said the new crop of recruits is talented, but very much a work in progress.

"There's so many things, I almost stop them and don't believe I have to teach some of the stuff. But then I think back and remember to last October and November of last year. These kids are the same."

Coach Cal says besides Darius Miller, Josh Harrelson, and DeAndre Liggins, a lot will ride on how quickly his talented freshmen learn to play together.
