Newest Voter Registration Numbers Released

Frankfort, KY – In terms of voter registration, Democrats still outnumber Republicans in Kentucky. But Les Fugate of the Secretary of State's office says the latest voter registration numbers indicate Republicans and independents signed up more voters since May than Democrats.

Officials Release First State of Black Lexington Report

Lexington, KY – The State of Black Lexington report looks at various issues including quality of life, racial equality, plus perceptions of racism; especially as they relate to employment, education, and health care. Local Urban League President and CEO P.G. Peeples says the point of the document is to generate dialogue and creativity throughout the community.

Kentucky Town Still Dealing With Mosque Controversy

Mayfield, KY – The Mayfield Board of Zoning Adjustments voted Tuesday night to discuss again Khadar Ahmed's plan to put the worship center in the building on behalf of Somalis who had recently moved to Graves County to work in a chicken-processing plant.

The zoning board will hold a public hearing on Nov. 9 to discuss the mosque.

The Paducah Sun reported that the board made its decision after a 20-minute executive session, citing pending or threatened litigation. It took no other action.

Lexington, KY – Former Lexington Mayor Teresa Isaac has endorsed Vice Mayor Jim Gray over incumbent, Jim Newberry in the upcoming mayor's race. At a press conference on Tuesday Isaac laid out some of the reasons why she's siding with Gray over Newberry.

Lexington To Hold Medication Drop-off Event

Lexington, KY – Unwanted, unused, or outdated prescription or over the counter' medications can be dropped off at five Lexington locations October 23rd. Without proper disposal, police commander Ken Armstrong says these drugs are a threat to public safety and the environment. In Lexington, at least, Armstrong sees little evidence of abuse by young people who comb through medicine cabinets.

Trustees Assemble Panel To Hire Replacement For UK's Todd

Lexington, KY – Trustee Chair Britt Brockman tells the Lexington Herald Leader the committee will be led by board member Jim Stuckert and members Jo Hern Curris, Pamela May and Billy Joe Miles.

Also on the panel will be faculty trustee Everett McCorvey, alumni representative Myra Tobin, as well as current faculty members Sheldon Steiner, Hollie Swanson, and Lee Meyer.

Student representatives will be Ben Taylor Cox and Ryan Smith.

Two Lexington Agencies To Share Healthcare Grant

Lexington, KY – Lexington-Fayette County spokesman Kevin Hall says his agency has wanted to collaborate with the mental health board on a project and very soon it will.

"Bluegrass is going to construct a 60-thousand square foot building on about three acres of land. It's going to be next to the campus they already have on Newtown Pike. It's going to be a three level facility and they have graciously allowed us to house primary care center services in one of the levels."
