Chandler-Barr, Other Races To Be Re-Canvassed Friday

Frankfort, KY – Democratic Congressman Ben Chandler claimed victory on election night, but because of the narrow vote margin, Republican challenger Andy Barr requested a recanvass. Les Fugate of the Secretary of State's office says vote totals will also be rechecked in three legislative races and three judicial races around the commonwealth.

Lexington, KY – In a news release, the company said it wants to restructure debt and improve its financial stability. Joseph Beth Booksellers has stores in Lexington and Cincinnati, but, will shut down operations in Nashville, Cleveland, Pittsburg and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Gov. Beshear Thanks Veterans, Their Families

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear has been traveling the state this week to recognize Kentucky's
past and present military personnel in honor of Veterans day. Following a visit to Fort Knox Wednesday, the governor made a stop at the VA Hospital in Louisville.

"We honor veterans on Veterans Day but we really ought to be honoring them every day because of what they've done for this country. We've got 339,000 veterans in Kentucky. Kentucky has a tradition of military service."

Higher Insurance Costs Lead to Lexington Budget Shortfall

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Fayette Urban County Government is in a $7.2-million budget hole due to rising costs in the city's health insurance program for employees. A special council meeting was held Tuesday afternoon to discuss the problem, which councilman Jay McChord says shouldn't be all that surprising.

Audit Finds Questionable Spending at Passport

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – State Auditor Crit Luallen is criticizing a nearly $800-million a year contract Kentucky has with a Louisville-based, Medicaid managed-care provider. Luallen says auditors found that as Passport Health Plan's excess revenues grew, so did questionable spending on travel, gifts, lobbying and salaries.
