Who Will Apply to be Next UK President? We May Never Know

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees had its first meeting Sunday with the consulting firm that will assist in the search for Lee Todd's replacement. Jan Greenwood of presidential search firm Greenwood/Asher told trustees that confidentiality is extremely important in finding a new leader for UK, and may ultimately affect which potential hires continue with the process.

Barr Concedes Congressional Race To Chandler

Lexington, KY – Republican Andy Barr has conceded defeat to Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, 10 days after voters cast their ballots in Central Kentucky's 6th Congressional District.

Barr made the announcement earlier this afternoon ending speculation over what might happen if a re-canvass of the district failed to turn up enough votes to make him the winner.

The end result was a net gain of one vote for Barr.

Of the over 239-thousand ballots cast in the Congressional race, Chandler emerged victorious by 648 votes.

UK To Partner With Childcare Group To Build On-Campus Facility

Lexington, KY – UK Health Care and Child Development Centers of the Bluegrass, which specializes in pre-school education for children with and without special needs, will build the new center near the UK Arboretum.

UK vice president for health affairs Michael Karpf, says the project addresses a growing demand for UK faculty, staff and students.

Recanvass of Sixth District Race Yields Little Change In Vote Totals

Frankfort, KY – A recanvass of the vote totals in Kentucky's 6th Congressional District race has been completed.

After rechecking the vote totals in all 16 counties in the district, Secretary of State Trey Grayson says Republican Andy Barr picked up one vote in Lincoln County, but Democratic Congressman Ben Chandler still leads by 648 votes.

The only other change in the vote totals was in Clark County, where a write-in candidate lost one vote. More than 239-thousand votes were cast in the district.

NCAA Rules Kanter Ineligible

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The NCAA ruled Kentucky freshman center Enes Kanter permanently ineligible to play for the Wildcats, though the school will appeal the decision.

The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff says Kanter received benefits above his actual and necessary expenses while playing for a club basketball team in Turkey.

Chandler-Barr, Other Races To Be Re-Canvassed Friday

Frankfort, KY – Democratic Congressman Ben Chandler claimed victory on election night, but because of the narrow vote margin, Republican challenger Andy Barr requested a recanvass. Les Fugate of the Secretary of State's office says vote totals will also be rechecked in three legislative races and three judicial races around the commonwealth.
