UK Student Group Competing For $25,000 Grant

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A University of Kentucky student organization that helps train animals to work with special needs clients has been chosen as one of 200 finalists in State Farm’s Neighborhood Assist program.    Wildcat Service Dogs is in line to receive up to $25,000 if it makes the final cut.

It's Official, Toyota To Build Lexus Model At Georgetown Plant

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Toyota will start building the Lexus ES 350 at a factory in Georgetown, Ky., starting in 2015, producing a luxury brand vehicle for the first time in the United States.

The Japanese car company said Friday that the Georgetown plant will build about 50,000 of the flagship sedans each year, creating 750 new jobs.

The Georgetown plant currently assembles the Camry, Avalon and Venza models as well as their hybrid counterparts. The plant already employs about 6,600 people.

Toyota Hopes To Produce New Vehicle Model In Ky.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky is in the running to produce an unspecified new vehicle model and add 570 permanent full-time workers at its Georgetown plant, according to details the carmaker provided to state officials to qualify for tax incentives.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved $146.5 million in state tax incentives on Wednesday to help with the cost of the proposed $531 million expansion.

Farmer Could Face Federal Charges Soon

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A Kentucky basketball icon turned politician could be the subject of a federal grand jury meeting on Friday.

Frankfort defense attorney Guthrie True said he has been informed that the grand jury will look at former Agriculture Commmissioner Richie Farmer.

The Executive Branch Ethics Commission charged Farmer last month with 42 administrative ethics violations for allegedly misusing government funds and employees while in office.
