Internet Gambling Sites Win Latest Round In Domain Name Seizure Case

Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear says some Internet gambling sites are siphoning millions of badly needed dollars from the commonwealth. He says sites that allow Kentuckians access are operating illegally because they're not regulated by the state, they pay no taxes in Kentucky and provide no jobs.

So, the administration sued to confiscate the domain names of 141 of the gambling sites.

Budget Hearings Continue In Frankfort

Frankfort, KY –
With the state searching for ways to generate new revenue, tax amnesty is on the minds of some Senate budget committee members. Previous amnesty efforts have raked in millions of dollars for the state, but Finance Secretary Jonathan Miller says it works best when used sparingly. "Otherwise, you get a system where too many taxpayers just wait for the next amnesty, to pay their taxes."

Kentuckians Watch History Made in DC Today

Lexington, KY – About 600 people witnessed the historic event at the Kentucky Theatre. Another large gathering was held at the downtown branch of the Lexington Public Library. In the Derby City, about 75 people attended an inaugural party at the Louisville Urban League's headquarters. Other ceremonies took place across Kentucky.

Score One For House Speaker Stumbo

Frankfort, KY – A recent article in the Lexington Herald-Leader questioned whether some of Rep. Greg Stumbo's business relationships posed conflict of interest problems, since he's now Speaker of the House.
