Econ. Panel Says State Budget Further Slipping Into The Red

Frankfort, KY – Gov. Steve Beshear has been looking for ways to trim around 80-million dollars from the state budget this fiscal year, but now it looks like he may have to double that. The Consensus Forecasting Group, chaired by Larry Lynch, is predicting a deficit of almost 161-million dollars. "Look at your sales tax receipts and income tax receipts. Withholding has been very bad. Nothing much has turned around. Nothing much has improved."

Beshear To Get New Communications Director

Frankfort, KY – Jay Blanton is Gov. Beshear's second communications director, after Dick Brown, who now works for Environmental and Public Protection. Blanton, who began work for the governor last August, is taking a job with the Keeneland Association in Lexington. "The professional and personal opportunity to work for an institution that means as much to central Kentucky as Keeneland does was just too much to pass up."

New Partnership Announced To Keep Kids Cyber-Safe

Frankfort, KY – More than one-point-three million Kentucky residents are now able to access broadband. But Rene True of ConnectKentucky says many parents are still reluctant to embrace technology, for financial and child safety reasons. "The parents may not fully understand the issues with cybersafety and may for that reason, not allow the kids to have a computer, have access to it. We don't want that to be an issue."
