Humana Announces Layoffs

Louisville, KY – Louisville-based insurer Humana announced today it will cut its national workforce

Drop Out Bill Making Progress

Frankfort, KY – State Education Commissioner Terry Holliday's not a big fan of current Kentucky law, which allows 16-year olds to drop out of school with parental consent. Recalling his days as a superintendent, Holliday says that gives 16-year olds too much control. "Because as superintendent, I had no backing. As a parent, they had no ability to change the mind of a 16-year old. Ladies and gentlemen, a 16-year old should not be making this decision that will impact their life, and impact if forever."

Black Jockeys Stories To Be Told At Event This Week

Lexington, KY – In honor of Black History Month, the Lexington History Museum is co-sponsoring an event this Thursday night at 7:30 at the Public Library's Beaumont Branch, featuring a presentation by former Herald Leader Turf writer, and three time Eclipse Award winner, Maryjean Wall. She'll be giving a talk titled "Black Horsemen of Central Kentucky", which chronicles the disappearance and legacy of the African American jockey.

Changing Dropout Age Easier Said Than Done

Frankfort, KY – Under current Kentucky law, high school students disenchanted - for whatever reason - with going to class, may dropout at age 16 without parental consent. Twenty years ago, during debate over the Kentucky Education Reform Act, many lawmakers argued for an increase in the dropout age, but it never happened. That's regrettable, says Rep. Jeff Greer, who's fighting anew to accomplish the goal.
