Pie Contest Kicks Off Holiday Festivities

Lexington, KY – Judges from Sullivan University's Culinary Institute literally tasted their way through Cheapside Pavilion to determine who achieved baking excellence for 2010. Sandy Ramsey, who came all the way from Pikeville, took top honors in the "made from scratch" category with, what else, her All American Apple Pie.

"I got up at five a.m. this morning and made my pie from scratch and we left there a little before eight."

Ramsey was a two time winner on this day. She also captured the coveted "prettiest pie" award.

Calipari Says Fans Need To Get Used To More "One & Done's"

Lexington, KY – Kentucky Coach John Calipari is re-iterating that Thursday was the best day in UK basketball history. Coach Cal was referring to last week's NBA basketball draft that saw five Wildcats go in the first round.

"It was a two hour infomercial for our league, for the University of Kentucky, and will speak volumes for the next five years, maybe longer", Calipari said.

Horse Safety Summit Meets at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – A meeting to discuss wide-ranging issues surrounding the health and safety of thoroughbred racing kicks off Monday at Keeneland.

Storm Victims Have Someone to Talk To

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – In the wake of the severe weather that hit Kentucky in early May, many storm victims are dealing with the mounting stress of losing belongings, dealing with insurance companies, and making home repairs.

FEMA spokesman Mike Skeels says that's why his agency is partnering with the Kentucky Community Crisis Response Board.

Grand Jury Returns Indictment Against Doneghy

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – A Fayette County grand jury has charged a man with murder in the hit-and-run death of a Lexington police officer.

The indictment was returned Tuesday against 33-year-old Glenn Doneghy.

Police say Doneghy struck and killed Officer Bryan Durman on April 29 and fled the scene. The 27-year-old Durman had been responding to a noise complaint on North Limestone when the crash happened.

FEMA Center Opens in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – A FEMA disaster recovery center opens Wednesday morning in Lexington.

Last week, Fayette County was added to the list of counties eligible for Individual Assistance stemming from the May 1st and 2nd storms. Residents who suffered damage can go to the center with help processing their FEMA claim and to get information on applying for a low interest loan through the Small Business Administration.
