Homeland Security Chief Visits Lexington

Lexington, KY – Lexington will soon sign on to become one of 650 so-called Secure Communities. Essentially it'll allow the fingerprints of anyone arrested by local authorities to be shared with federal immigration officials.

"It is the most uniform, consistent, and easy way to make sure that we identify those who not only have broken our criminal laws but also have broken our immigration laws, and make sure that we have a seamless transition from the criminal justice system into the immigration and deportation system."

Program To Help Veterans Heal Via Equine Therapy

Lexington, KY – War veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder may soon find relief in the form of equine therapy. Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, a Georgetown-based non-profit, is launching a new program called Horses for Heroes.

"It's going to be a very small pilot program with four veterans and will be a learning curve from there, hopefully," says CKRH Executive Director Pat Kline.

Education Commish Gets High Marks For First Year

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky School Board is giving Education Commissioner Terry Holliday high marks in his first annual performance assessment. Holliday was hired in July 2009 to replace former Commissioner Jon Draud, who resigned for health reasons. Board Vice-Chair Dorie Combs says Holliday is diligent, passionate about his work, and prepared.

AP Report: Bill Clinton To Stump For Conway

Louisville, KY – Former state Democratic Chairman Jerry Lundergan said Wednesday that the details regarding Clinton's visit are still being worked out. Lundergan is a close friend of the Clintons.

Conway's campaign could not immediately confirm the visit.

Clinton carried Kentucky twice in serving two terms in the White House, and his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, trounced Barack Obama during Kentucky's Democratic presidential primary in the spring of 2008.
