Clinton Will Be Back in Kentucky

Group Drops Legal Challenge To Furloughs

Frankfort, KY – A half dozen state workers, all members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union, filed suit in early August.

Their aim was to block six furlough days in the current fiscal year ordered by Gov. Steve Beshear.

Beshear says the furloughs will save the state $24 million, and are part of a $131 million budget reduction ordered by Kentucky lawmakers.

Lexington, KY – The man who wants to replace Democrat Ben Chandler as Kentucky's Sixth District Congressman paid a visit to the University of Kentucky campus today. Republican and tea party favorite, Andy Barr told a crowd of mostly students that it's in their best interest to help send a fiscal conservative like him to Washington.

Conway Making Final Campaign Push

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – With Tuesday's election just days away, Kentucky Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Jack Conway isn't buying recent poll results showing a dramatic drop in his support. The latest Bluegrass Poll has Republican Rand Paul leading Conway by nine points.

Conway was asked about the poll at a Kentucky Democratic Party rally in Frankfort Thursday evening.

Rogers Predicts GOP Takeover Of U.S. House

Lexington, KY – Congressman Hal Rogers spoke at a Commerce Lexington luncheon Thursday, and said the GOP is poised to take control of the House.

"People are tired of the unemployment situation we're in, the recession that the country is in and has been for such a long time. At the same time we have this soaring deficit that the country is running."

Rogers says Republicans will work to achieve what he calls greater oversight of the Obama administration.

Lyric Theater Officially Dedicated

Lexington, KY – Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry, and a host of civic and community leaders cut the ribbon Thursday on the renovated Lyric Theater at the corner of Elm Tree Lane and East Third Street. The Lyric was a major focal point of African-American culture in the 1940's and 50's. Among those speaking at the dedication ceremony were Lyric Theater Board Member Juanita Betz Peterson, and Architect for the project, Susan Hill.

Voter Turnout in KY Predicted To Be Below 50 Percent

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson is predicting voter turnout next Tuesday of around 48 percent. He's basing that on similar turnout in 1998 and 2002, which also were non-presidential election years with U-S Senate races on the ballot.

Boston Pops to Play Rupp Arena

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The music of one of the most beloved orchestra's in the world will fill Rupp Arena for a night of celebration and fundraising. Officials with the Boston Pops, Keeneland, and the University of Kentucky are teaming up for a concert scheduled for next October. John Nardolillo is director of the UK Symphony Orchestra, which will also participate in the event.
