Around 300 At U of L Will Accept Buyouts

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- University of Louisville President James Ramsey says around 300 people have indicated they will accept a buyout plan offered in February.

Ramsey told The Courier-Journal on Thursday he expects savings from the buyouts to be more than the goal of $2.75 million. The buyouts were offered as a way to reduce salary costs amid state budget cuts and tuition and fee increases, and U of L said it hoped at least 200 employees would accept the offer.

Louisville To Join Atlantic Coast Conference

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its presidents and chancellors have unanimously voted to add Louisville as the replacement for Maryland.

In a statement Wednesday, league Commissioner John Swofford said the addition of Louisville along with Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in the past year has made the league stronger.

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich says the ACC was "the perfect fit for us."

Maryland announced last week it would join the Big Ten in 2014.

Distilleries to Continue Funding Alcohol Education Programs at UK, U of L

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Alcohol awareness programs at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville will continue to receive financial support  from two Kentucky distilleries.  Beam Inc. and Brown-Forman Corp. are giving a combined $600,000 to the schools to bolster efforts to combat underage and binge drinking across the Commonwealth.
