Kentucky Women Top Texas A&M For Record-Setting Win

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A'dia Mathies scored 23 points and No. 6 Kentucky overcame a sluggish first half to rally past No. 20 Texas A&M 65-62 for a record setting win on Thursday night.

Jennifer O'Neill added 15 points as the Wildcats (15-1, 3-0 SEC) extended school-record winning streaks of 14 games overall and 31 in a row at home.

U of L Hangs On To Beat UK In Battle Of The Bluegrass

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Russ Smith scored 21 points and Chane Behanan had 20 and No. 4 Louisville ended a four-game losing streak against rival Kentucky with an up-and-down 80-77 victory on Saturday.


Peyton Siva added 19 points as the Cardinals (12-1) won a hard-fought Battle of the Bluegrass. Though the Cardinals trail the series 30-15, their victory followed last spring's 69-61 national semifinal loss to the Wildcats, who went on to win their eighth national championship.

Ex-Louisville Football Player Sues School, Coach

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A former University of Louisville football player has sued the school and coach Charlie Strong and says he was coerced into covering up a beating in the locker room by a pair of teammates.

Former Cardinals defensive lineman Patrick Grant of Sunrise, Fla., alleges that two teammates attacked him Oct. 24, 2010, in the locker room at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and, according to the lawsuit, beat him "so badly that he required immediate, urgent care and nearly lost his left eye."

UK Coach Stoops Has Had "Whirlwind" First Two Weeks

LEXINGTON, Ky.-- New Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is finally able to stand still for a moment.  His thought process, however, remains at high speed.

Stoops says it's been a "whirlwind" since he was hired on Dec. 2. Things slowed down enough for him on Wednesday to provide an update on how he's putting the program together in his first few weeks and to announce the signings of junior college players Steven Borden and Za'Darius Smith, Stoops' first commitments.

Neal Brown Plans Up-Tempo Offense For Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Neal Brown plans to bring the `Air Raid' offense to Kentucky. He said it won't take long to install the up-tempo, passing attack, that it can be done quickly.  The Wildcats new offensive coordinator said Tuesday he will employ the offense that helped Texas Tech's offense rank in the top 15 nationally during his three seasons there.

Phillips Takes Position With Florida Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It didn't take Joker Phillips long to find another job.  The former Kentucky head coach landed at No. 4 Florida on Monday, joining the Gators as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

Florida coach Will Muschamp said Phillips will begin work Friday.
