Nicholson Now 1-2 On Final Day Of Rolex

New Zealander Andy Nicholson is the top rider to beat heading into the final day of the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A superb effort by Andrew Nicholson aboard Quimbo and Calico Joe respectively has the New Zealander occupying the top two spots heading into the final day of the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Nicholson, a six-time Olympian, completed two flawless trips over the Cross Country course.  For anyone else to win, Nicholson would have to knock down two fences aboard both horses Sunday.  Considering he's currently the top rider in the world, such an outcome seems unlikely.

Fox-Pitt Charges To The Lead In Rolex

Britain's William Fox-Pitt and Chilli Morning are the tandem to beat this weekend at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - William Fox-Pitt of Great Britain is poised to capture his third Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, with a commanding lead over Andrew Nicholson of New Zealand. 

Fox-Pitt won the dressage phase of the competition Friday aboard Chilli Morning with a score of 33.3 penalties.  Nicholson on Quimbo stands second with a score of 38.0.  He also holds third place with his mount Calico Joe, (40.8).

Rolex Competition Under Way at Kentucky Horse Park

Andy Nicholson of New Zealand aboard Calico Joe, finished day one of the competition in first place at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Andrew Nicholson of New Zealand guided Calico Joe to the best score on the first day of dressage competition at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event. 

American Becky Holder, who is no stranger to the Kentucky Horse Park course, rode 14-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Can’t Fire Me into second place.

Top Sire Storm Cat Euthanized At 30

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Storm Cat, the thoroughbred stallion who once commanded one of the highest breeding fees in North America, died Wednesday at Overbrook Farm in Lexington. He was 30.

Ric Waldman, manager of Storm Cat's stud career, said the horse was euthanized due to complications from old age. Waldman said Storm Cat appeared to have cancer but tests were not performed because they could have caused him pain.

Injured Kentucky Forward Looks Ahead To NBA Draft

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Nerlens Noel continues to take small steps toward returning to the court following surgery on his left knee.

He's shed his crutches and exercising without a knee brace. Though he wouldn't specify want types of exercises, it's all all signs his recovery is ahead of schedule - and each stride is important with the NBA draft looming.

Nerlens Noel Leaving UK Early To Enter NBA Draft

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky freshman Nerlens Noel has announced he will forego his sophomore season and enter his name in this year's NBA Draft.

A release from UK Athletics says after talking it over with family, and Coach John Calipari, Noel decided to put his name in for the draft.  Noel is projected by most experts to be a top five first round pick.
