LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The head of Kentucky's Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has resigned the position he has held since 2005.

The chairman of the department's commission says Jonathan W. Gassett submitted a letter of resignation Thursday evening.

Commission chairman Stuart Ray says Gassett is resigning to pursue outside interests.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The head of the Kentucky Department of Military Affairs is defending the former head of Kentucky's Emergency Management Agency.

Kentucky Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini, told the Lexington Herald Leader that former emergency management director John W. Heltzel is "an honorable person."

The comment came in the wake of a scathing state audit that found the agency wasted taxpayer money, intimidated employees and created a hostile work environment.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The embattled director of the Bluegrass Area Development District has resigned. Lenny Stoltz's resignation Monday came a week after the executive board of the development district told him to resign or face being fired. Stoltz will receive a severance package of $128,000.

According to the Lexington Herald Leader Lawrenceburg Mayor Edwinna Baker, chairwoman of the development district, said the board had "lost confidence in the present leader and we needed new leadership."

Rollins Resigns Legislative Seat, Takes New Job

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A Democratic state representative from Midway has resigned to accept the top job at the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority.

Carl Rollins, chairman of the House Education Committee, submitted his letter of resignation to Gov. Steve Beshear on Wednesday.

Legislative Research Commission Executive Director Bobby Sherman had notified lawmakers of Rollins resignation in an email. Sherman said the resignation would be effective at the close of business Wednesday.
