Callling All Filmmakers, KY Wants You

Lexington, KY – House Bill 3, which passed during the recent special legislative session, offers, among other things, tax breaks to film crews that do work in Kentucky. Governor Beshear says the bill will not only bring more jobs to the Commonwealth, but will also promote tourism and economic development.

Visitors Really "Dug" Excavating Egypt Show

Lexington, KY – Nearly 13-thousand people filed through the doors to view the collection of ancient artifacts. That's four times the total attendance of the art museum's last major exhibition.

Museum Director Kathy Walsh Piper says nearly half of those folks were visiting the museum for the first time. She says it sets the art museum up well to put on future large-scale shows. Museum officials are currently working on lining up a horse-related exhibition to coincide with next year's World Equestrian Games.

Kentuckians Not All That Hip To Water Pollution Issues

Frankfort, KY – The telephone survey of 45-hundred Kentucky adults indicates a lack of awareness of the harmful effects of untreated runoff into water supplies. For example, only 26-percent of respondents consider fertilizers and pesticides a threat to waterways and only 16-percent see pet waste as a threat. "I think it's a lack of education and they've probably got other things on their minds."

State Auditor To Comb Over KACO & KLC's Books

Frankfort, KY – Investigations by the Lexington-Herald Leader have raised questions about alleged extravagant spending by top officials at the Kentucky Association of Counties and the Kentucky League of Cities. State Auditor Crit Luallen is concerned about the reports at the publicly funded agencies and will audit each. "We'll be starting with employee benefits and expenses and we'll be looking at the broad array of policies that are in place to guarantee board oversight of their finances."

Beshear Salutes Guard Employers

Frankfort, KY – Around 45-hundred Kentucky employers have at least one employee who serves in the Kentucky National Guard or Reserve. It's a commitment that deserves recognition and praise says former Army reservist and Gov. Steve Beshear. "Thus, I have designated July as Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Month, as a reminder that it is essential that we express appreciation each and every day for these brave men and women."
