PSC Says Natural Gas Should Be Cheaper This Winter

Frankfort, KY – Demand for natural gas is down, there's ample supply, storage is at capacity and current prices are 50-percent lower than a year ago. Andrew Melnykovych of the Public Service Commission says, add it all up, and your heating bill this winter should be lower. "For somebody using 10-thousand cubic feet per month, their overall total gas bill is going to be 39-percent on average, below where it was at this time last year."

Plans Unveiled For New Eastern State Hosp.

Lexington, KY – When complete in 2012, the psychiatric hospital will have 230 in-patient beds along with three personal care transition homes and specialized treatment for persons with brain injuries. Mayor Newberry and the governor say it's a significant and long overdue step in addressing the mental health needs of the community.

State Audit Reveals Questionable, But Not Illegal Spending At KACO

Frankfort, KY – For five years, beginning in 2003, revenues at the Kentucky Association of Counties rose 75-percent, boosting the annual budget to almost six million dollars. And from 2006 to 2009, more than three million dollars in questionable expenditures were made by the KACo board, management and staff. "On lavish dinners, alcohol, sports and entertainment tickets, staff birthday meals and extravagant Christmas parties."

Work Progressing On KY Capitol Dome

\"Lincoln In A Box\" by Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – Workers have already protected the rotunda's five historic statues, by encasing them in huge plywood boxes. Now, they're erecting the scaffolding needed to reach the ceiling of the dome, 174-feet above, which needs a fresh coat of paint and new lighting. David Buchta of Historic Properties says the project has been three years in the planning. "There are 115-thousand pounds that will be on this floor and these I-beams - there's 24 of them and they weigh 500 pounds each."

Lextran Launches Domestic Violence Ride To Shelter Program

Lexington, KY – Lextran is teaming up with the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program to offer free services to anyone fleeing a domestic violence situation starting in November.

Lextran spokesman David Riggins says the new program has been in the works for over a year and is similar to the safe place program provided by the local YMCA.
