Frankfort, KY – K-CHIP provides health insurance to children whose family income is below 200-percent of the federal poverty level. That's just over 42-thousand dollars a year for a family of four.

Governor Beshear says 67-thousand Kentucky children are eligible for the program and they need to be identified and enrolled. "To boost the number of kids enrolled in K-CHIP, we removed the face-to-face interview, to remove that barrier to applying."

Louisville, KY – Beshear told reporters in Louisville today (Monday) that he's given the matter "a lot

of prayerful thought" and carefully reviewed the facts of the case and decided there's

no reason to intervene.

(I still can find no extenuating circumstances that would cause me to not go ahead

and have the state carry out the verdict of the court, and the judgement of the court

and the sentence of the court, and so the state is going to do that).

Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear says Internet gambling sites are illegally siphoning hundreds of millions of badly needed dollars from Kentucky residents. He says the sites are not regulated by the state, pay no taxes in Kentucky and provide no jobs.

So, the state sued 141 of the gambling sites, seeking forfeiture of their domain names. Lawyers for the gambling sites immediately sought dismissal of the lawsuit, saying the state has no jurisdiction over their sites.

Louisville, KY – Council Executive Director Ginny Grulke says as money gets tighter in Kentucky households, many families who own horses are cutting care of the animals out of their budgets. She says in the past, families could sell their unwanted horses, but that's no longer the case.

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's unemployment rate is the highest in 16 years, manufacturing employment is down five-percent, exports have collapsed, consumer confidence is at an all-time low. It's bad and there's no sunshine on the horizon, says Centre College economist Bruce Johnson. "I don't know how bad it's going to be, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were looking at a recession like we had in the early to mid-1970's."

Lexington, KY – Earth Save International of Lexington is sponsoring a "meatless" Thanksgiving potluck this Saturday evening at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Clays Mill Road.

The potluck will also feature a presentation from noted author and human rights activist Rae Sikora. Fann says they'll begin serving at 5:30 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

Lexington, KY – Kentucky Head Football Coach Rich Brooks was first in line Thursday to donate a pint of blood as the Kentucky Blood Center kicks off its 21st annual Big Blue Crush blood drive competition. The yearly rivalry between U-K and the University of Tennessee helps ensure an adequate blood supply during the holiday season. Coach Brooks took the opportunity to remind the Big Blue Faithful that there's a great need for blood in the Commonwealth.
