Coach Cal Wows 'Em In Frankfort

Frankfort, KY – Last weekend, on Lexington television, Coach Calipari headed-up a telethon called "Hoops for Haiti" that raised over one million dollars. Kentucky House members are throwing in another 100-dollars each, or 10-thousand dollars, to the effort. Coach Cal says he's been blown away by the generosity shown by Kentuckians. "How bout the call I got from a mother who said her mentally challenged daughter made 40-dollars a week, watched the show and gave 20-dollars to Hoops for Haiti."

Expanded Gaming Bill A Dead Issue This Session

Frankfort, KY – In his budget address Tuesday, Gov. Beshear unveiled a new state spending plan dependent on almost 800-million dollars in revenue from casino gambling. But lawmakers are giving the budget the cold shoulder. This was the message delivered by House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Senate President David Williams this morning at their weekly news conference.

"Is the concept of a budget based on casino gaming - is that dead?" asked McVeigh.

Mongiardo Officially Enters Senate Race

Frankfort, KY – It was just a short walk for Dr. Mongiardo, from his office at the State Capitol to the Secretary of State's office, to sign his paperwork and pay his filing fee to run for U-S Senate. The lieutenant governor, accompanied by his wife Allison and daughter Kathryn, says he's in the race to win. "And I'm the one candidate in this race who has a record of standing up and working across the aisle, or even standing up against my own party, when it's the right thing to do."

Conway Officially Files For Senate Race

Frankfort, KY – Joined by his family, and several key supporters, Attorney General Jack Conway dropped by the Secretary of State's office to fill out his qualifying papers and pay his filing fee. Afterwards, he told reporters, his primary focus right now is the May 18th Democratic primary. "I take nothing for granted. I'm gonna campaign hard. We're raising money. We're gonna have a well-financed primary. I'm gonna travel the state. I'm gonna begin a dialogue with the voters in the Democratic party."

Beshear's Budget Relies On Gambling Revenue
