Utilities Want To Raise Rates To Help Pay For Storm Costs

Frankfort, KY – Fifty-one percent of LG&E's customers, mostly in Jefferson County, lost power during the ice storm. Forty-percent of Kentucky Utilities' customers were impacted, but damage to KU's system was more severe, since most of the outages were in hard-hit Western Kentucky.

KU wants to recoup $62 million in damage repair costs. LG&E wants $45 million.

Lights Going Up At Churchill

Louisville, KY – The home of the Kentucky Derby will have permanent lights installed for night racing.

Churchill Downs officials announced today that the lights will be ready

KY Man Jailed Over Investment Scheme

Frankfort, KY – In August 2006, Ernest Cadick admitted selling bogus interests in oil and gas exploration projects and other unregistered securities. He was ordered to make restitution and engage in no further investment sales without approval from the Department of Financial Institutions.

But last November, three Louisville residents accused Cadick of scamming them out of $20,000 in alleged overseas investments. The victims say they were solicited at church.

Panel Gathers To Tackle Poverty

Frankfort, KY – The U.S. Census Bureau now ranks Kentucky fifth among states, and the District of Columbia, when measuring poverty. That's up from sixth last year. House Speaker Greg Stumbo says the commonwealth's heading in the wrong direction, and that's why House and Senate leaders have formed a task force to find answers to the state's poverty problem.

KY Atty. Gen. Weighs In On KCTCS Tenure Elimination

Frankfort, KY – In March, the Board of Regents of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System voted 10-4 to eliminate tenure for teachers hired after June 30th. The board said the move would save money, without eliminating protections for teachers.
