Lexington Healthcare Worker Has TB

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A healthcare worker at Good Samaritan Hospital is being treated for tuberculosis. The Lexington resident is a student at Eastern Kentucky University. Jessica Dumaurier with the Fayette County Health Department says hospital staff and fellow students have been contacted.

"Around 50 students at Eastern and they have already been notified. I think they tested around 80 workers at Good Samaritan this week and then they're looking to identify those patients who might have had exposure or additional workers."

Stumbo Says Passport Errors Could Have Been Prevented

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky House Speaker Stumbo says the questionable spending by Passport Health Plan could have been prevented or caught early on if the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services had been properly reviewing its contract with the Louisville company.

Speaking at a meeting of the task force on Medicaid cost containment Tuesday, Stumbo urged the cabinet to recover any misused funds.

Group Takes Anti-Bullying Message To UK-Other College Campuses

"To Write Love On Her Arms", a non-profit group that helps teens and young adults struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide, took its message of hope to students on the UK Campus Monday.

Silberman Delivers "State of Your Public Schools" Talk To Business Group

Lexington, KY – During Stu Silberman's six year tenure as superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools, the rate of students earning proficient or distinguished scores in math and reading has climbed to around 75-percent. But for the thousands of kids still falling in the achievement gap, Silberman says more work must be done.

"Last school year in October, we declared war on the achievement gaps, and said that it's just not acceptable to us and we're going to do everything that it takes to eliminate those gaps."

Energy Efficiency Program Could Save You Money

Lexington resident Melissa LeVine is one of the first participants in the Kentucky Home Performance program. She had an energy audit performed on her Hartland neighborhood home and will soon make improvements.

Hope Center Opens Apartment Complex for Women

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For hundreds of women like Cassandra Clay, the Hope Center of Lexington is a godsend. She started drinking at age eight, and got hooked on drugs as a teenager. While serving time at the Fayette County Detention Center, Clay a path to recovery through the Hope Center.

"It's like my food, my water. I got a lot of tools from here to learn how to live and cope with life on life's terms. It's an experience of hope."

Big Blue Crush Underway

Lexington, KY – The University of Kentucky hasn't beaten the Tennessee Vols on the gridiron for a quarter of a century and it hasn't prevailed in the annual Big Blue Crush blood drive against UT in 8 years. UK Football Coach Joker Phillips is determined that both situations change this year on his watch.

"There's two streaks we gotta break. We haven't won since 2002. At the end of this week I expect one of them to be broken. In two weeks, we'll take care of the other one."

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees had its first meeting Sunday with the consulting firm that will assist in the search for Lee Todd's replacement. Jan Greenwood of presidential search firm Greenwood/Asher told trustees that confidentiality is extremely important in finding a new leader for UK, and may ultimately affect which potential hires continue with the process.
