As Kentucky emerges from its most brutal cold snap in years, the window opens for low-income families to apply for crisis home-energy assistance.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - With temperatures reaching new lows this winter, organizers with Community Action Council say a program designed to provide utility assistance to low income residents in Lexington is expected to run out of funds by mid February.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Community Action Council’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP, is facing a sizeable budget shortfall in 2013 and the group is unsure how it can make up for the lost funding.
