Court: Ky. Library Tax Rates Can Stay

The Kentucky Court of Appeals has ruled that most public libraries can raise taxes by 4 percent each year without asking taxpayers for permission.

Libraries across the state are keeping a close eye on the Court of Appeals in Elizabethtown, as the outcome of a case there could slash funding for about a hundred locations.

A group of cases currently pending in Kentucky appeals court could affect the way libraries in 79 counties have operated for decades.

A measure passed by a state House committee Tuesday seeks to answer questions about library funding that have led to several court cases in Kentucky.
