Barnhart Takes No Position On Farmer's Jersey Staying Up At Rupp

Richie Farmer's jersey hangs with the other unforgettables at Rupp Arena. Some are wondering whether it should be taken down.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Following a news briefing on football crowd control Friday WUKY asked UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart for his opinion on whether the school should continue to publicly honor former basketball Wildcat Richie Farmer.  His jersey currently hangs in the rafters of Rupp Arena as part of the 1992 Unforgettables Team.

Sullivan Offers Scholarships To Aspiring Chefs

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Sullivan University is offering $70,000 worth of scholarships to aspiring chefs as part of a program sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

The Louisville-based school will provide the scholarships to Junior Chef champions who will be crowned in a statewide competition in August.

State to Shutter Costly Fuel Testing Lab

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Describing it as a waste of taxpayer dollars, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said he will shutter a $3 million gasoline quality testing lab that was opened under his predecessor Richie Farmer.
 
 Comer said Wednesday that the lab "hemorrhaged'' tax dollars while failing to handle the 500 random tests of gas station fuel Kentucky conducts each year. The closure will eventually save taxpayers about $600,000 a year, Comer said. The state is already contracting with a private company in Texas to conduct the
tests.
