LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A one-time southern Kentucky cardiologist faces 30 to 37 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to overstating patient conditions to get payments for numerous heart procedures.

A judge will sentence 51-year-old Sandesh Rajaram Patil on Aug. 27 in London, Ky. Patil admitted on Tuesday to making false statements regarding the placement of stents. Stents are metal tubes surgically inserted into a patient's arteries in order to improve blood flow.
