Fayette Schools Push Anti-Bullying Message

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County school buses are carrying placards this year urging students to report cases of bullying when they see an incident happening.

The signs were placed on the buses when classes started last week and are located at the front of the vehicle near the driver. The location was chosen for easy visibility.

Fayette County Students Start A New School Year

LEXINGTON, Ky.-- It’s time to hit the books once again in Fayette County.  As Karyn Czar reports the second largest school district in the state is looking to the state's flagship university  to help them develop a new way of learning.

Many of us may remember straight even rows of desks and chairs when we went to school but the settings and structures for learning is changing.  Take the new STEAM Academy on sixth street.  Following the pledge of allegiance were greeted with a rendering of My Old Kentucky Home by the UK opera singers.

Supt. Young Leaving Jessamine County For Chief Academic Officer Job At FCPS

Jessamine County Schools Superintendent Lu Young will assume the new duties as Chief Academic Officer at Fayette County Public Schools.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The long-time Superintendent of Jessamine County Public Schools is leaving that post to accept a new role as Chief Academic Officer of Fayette County Public Schools.  Lu Young was recruited by FCPS Superintendent Tom Shelton to oversee all programs of student performance and achievement.  He says there is nobody better to handle the newly created office.

“Her 30 years of experience in all aspects of curriculum, instruction and assessment pretty well made her stand out above everyone else and made it basically an easy selection," Shelton said.

Grant Helps FCPS Buy More Robot Kits

A Garden Springs Elementary student shows how the robot can move when programmed.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Fayette County Public Schools will soon have more than 100 robotics kits in its elementary schools thanks to a grant from Xerox. The company donated $35,000 Monday through a fundraising effort spearheaded by IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
