FRANKFORT, Ky. - The improvement of Kentucky students in assessments of reading, math and science in the past 20 years has placed the state in a tie for fifth place in a report from Harvard University.

For many students, transitioning back to school means relearning forgotten material, but educational experts and state lawmakers hope to reduce that learning loss by keeping kids active throughout the summer.

WINCHESTER, Ky. - They may be a few years away from graduation, but Kentucky 8th and 10th graders are already thinking about life after high school.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- More low-income Kentucky families would be able to send their child to public preschool under a plan to expand eligibility requirements.

Half-day preschool programs are currently open to 4-year-olds in families with income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level. In his budget proposal, Governor Steve Beshear would raise that income cap to 160 percent of the poverty level.
