This week on Dr. Greg Davis on Medicine the host talks with Dr. Ellen Hahn, director of BREATHE and professor in the UK College of Nursing.  Her recent study investigated whether new cases of lung cancer in Kentucky were lower, higher, or stable in communities with smoke-free laws.

February is American Heart Month and there's good news for people who were born with certain heart defects.  Studies show congenital heart patients are living longer thanks to medical advances that were not available 40 to 50 years ago.  Dr. Greg talks with Andrew Leventhal, director of the Congenital Heart Program at UK Healthcare.  He encourages patients who had procedures as children to schedule follow up visits well into their adulthood in order to head off future complications.

This week Dr. Greg talks with Fayette County Health Commissioner Dr. Kraig Humbaugh about the Lexington Fayette County Health Department's inaugural class training the community on how to use Narcan or Naloxone, the overdose reversing medication.  As part of the instruction the department provided more than 140 overdose kits.  They were made possible through a partnership between the health department, Drug Free Lex and the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center, part of the University of Kentucky College of Public Health.
