State Auditor Adam Edelen’s office set about discovering the size and scope of the state’s backlog of untested rape kits this week. Preliminary estimates suggest the unexamined collections of biological evidence taken from sexual assault victims could number in the hundreds, if not thousands.


State Auditor Adam Edelen says getting an accurate count of the state’s untested rape kits is “the most important” thing his office will do this year. The top taxpayer watchdog plans to start investigating in the next few weeks.

Edelen Makes Re-Election Bid Official

Democratic state Auditor Adam Edelen has filed for re-election.

State Auditor Edelen won’t be releasing his formal audit on the subject until early next year, but the auditor gave a preview of his findings at a Kentucky Chamber of Commerce conference Monday.

Fayette County Public Schools officials can expect the audit of the district’s finances in about three weeks, according to State Auditor Adam Edelen.
