Lexington, KY –
From blogs, to chat rooms, and online communities, there've never been more opportunities for ordinary citizens to have a say in how, and what kind of, news stories are covered by local media. Beginning this week, Central Kentuckians who've had a desire to try their hand at online journalism can sign up for a three-week training course at the University of Kentucky. UK grad student Niki King is helping to coordinate the Kentucky Citizen's Media Project, which will train participants to contribute stories for a soon-to-be launched Lexington Commons website.

King says participants will meet the next three Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 at the E.S. Good Barn. The workshops will touch on the basics of journalism including how to recognize news, how to write long and short stories, while also adhering to journalism ethics and media law.

Those interested can contact Niki King at niki.king@uky.edu.
