Lexington, KY – Three World War II-era military planes will be flying into Lexington this Friday, giving the public a glimpse at two rare bombers and a Mustang fighter plane.
It's one thing to see WWII planes locked away at a museum; it's another to crawl inside them.
"It's literally like walking into a time machine, straight out of 1944," Hunter Chaney says.
Hunter Chaney is director of marketing for the Collings Foundation, the non-profit organization behind the Wings of Freedom Tour, which makes its way through Lexington this weekend. And while the B24 Liberator, B17 Flying Fortress, and P51 Mustang fighter plane may be the big attractions, Chaney encourages visitors to also talk with the men who once flew them.
"This interaction, particularly with the World War II veterans who come out to the aviation museum. It's that interaction that gives people a real personal slice of World War II history," he says.
For those looking for the full experience, rides will also be available, starting at $425 per person.
