Women's Health Focus Of Kiosk Technology

Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear joined the University of Kentucky’s Dr Mary Lynne Capilouto to introduce a new tool designed to dispense health care information to women who may not otherwise receive it.

According the National Women’s Law Center in Washington, D.C., Kentucky’s female population ranks in the bottom third of almost every women’s health indicator. The Women’s Wellness Guide, a touch-screen kiosk located UK’s Markey Cancer Center, is intended to be one step toward remedying that problem with technology.

"This is like having a huge pamphlet talk to you," says Kentucky Commission on Women executive director Eleanor Jordan.

Jordan says the bilingual kiosk is meant to be a non-threatening way for women to ask person health questions and even contact health care providers immediately by phone.

"The message that actually permeates throughout all the modules is 'take hold of your health,'" she says.

Jordan says the guides will also let professionals know which topics women access the most and help them focus on addressing those needs.
