Woman Who Took Out Protective Order Shot To Death

Police say a Bowling Green woman who took out a protective order against a man was later killed by the man, who then shot himself in the jaw.

Kentucky State Police tell us that a man killed a woman and had threatened her enough in the past that she had to get a protective order against him.  Gary Thompson allegedly shot Sheila Nash on Tuesday night and then got into a shootout with police the next day which ended with Thompson shooting himself in the jaw.

According to a petition written by the victim and filed in the Warren Circuit Court Clerk’s office, Thompson had threatened to burn Nash's apartment down and had broken into her home.  Nash was granted a protective order but it hadn’t been served to Thompson yet.

Thompson survived his self-inflicted injury and will face first-degree murder and burglary charges.
