Williams & Farmer to Talk Political Plans

By Rick Howlett

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Senate President David Williams and state Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer have scheduled an announcement for Wednesday morning to discuss their future.

It's expected that Williams will announce his candidacy for governor in 2011, with Farmer as his running mate.

There's already one other GOP ticket in the race: Louisville businessman Phil Moffett, who's affiliated with the Tea Party movement, is seeking the nomination with running mate Mike Harmon, a state representative from Danville.

Governor Steve Beshear announced last year he would seek another term, with Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson as his running mate. He was asked Tuesday about a possible Williams/Farmer ticket.

"We're going to look forward to running against whoever wins the republican primary. But it's way too early in my view to start this governor's race, because I've got a government to run, I've got families to try to take care of during this rough time, I've got jobs to try to create, I've got people that need help."

Williams and Farmer will announce their plans at an 11am event Wednesday in Frankfort.
