Will Midway Get To Keep Its Post Office?

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Midway College will be the scene tonight of a special town hall meeting called by Mayor Tom Bozarth. He's expected to discuss the long-term viability of keeping the town post office open. Bozarth says he has heard through back channels that Midway's post office could be one of two thousand operations targeted for closure by the U-S Postal Service in a cost cutting measure. Bozarth says the first sign of trouble came recently with the re-assignment of letter carriers to the Versailles post office some eight miles away.

"This post office serves Franklin County, Scott County, and Woodford County. I just would like for them to show how they are going to save the money by moving those jobs over there. And with moving the carriers, we'll probably lose a clerk in our post office. And that's just the start of it. I'm really concerned that in two years that the post office might come back and say that this post office is very inefficient, and we need to close it."

Lexington's Postal Services Manager, Tom Atkins will serve as moderator. The meeting is tonight at 7 on the Midway College campus.
