While Students Enjoy The Summer, Principals Are In The Classroom

Karyn Czar/ WUKY

Principals across Fayette County became students themselves Monday.  They’re working on Standards Based Instructional Design at Garden Springs Elementary.

Todd Baldwin, the State Coordinator at the National Institute for School Leadership said the research is clear; school leadership has an impact on student learning.  So the goal of these workshops is to ensure these principals can identify quality instruction and support it, creating a direct impact on the kids.  “The teachers are the ones that are directing the instructions in the classroom everyday so they’re the closest link to student learning but the teachers are either supported by or hindered by quality systems of instruction and high quality leadership in their building.  So by investing in the school leader, we can invest in every single one of the teachers in the building.  And that’s what Fayette County’s doing through this program”

This is the third session Fayette County principals have participated in this summer as they prep for the start of another school year and that’s just a few weeks away.  The first day of classes in the district is Wednesday August 12th.
