LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Lexington Public Library wants you to "Geek the Library." That's the mantra of a national public awareness campaign sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

"We're using geek as a verb, so anything that you really love or are passionate about, or excited about, that's what you geek. And the library can help you explore what you geek," says LPL director Ann Hammond.

Lexington and the Jessamine County Public Library are joining in the effort. The program provides free marketing materials to get people thinking about how the library can help them learn more about what they're interested in.

"Posters, flyers, bookmarks. A lot of ways for people to get interactive with it and to tell us what it is they geek and to share that with other people in the community."

Hammond hopes to see a boost in library funding as a result of "Geek the Library." Nearly three million items are checked out from the Lexington Public Library each year.
