Weather Causes Spring Break Cancellations

Some schools in eastern Kentucky have been out so much this winter due to the weather, district officials have already canceled spring break.

Media report education officials in Perry, Letcher, Knox and Harlan counties say they'll use the break to make up snow days.

Officials say students have been out of class more in 2015 than they've been in them. Letcher County Superintendent Tony Sergent says school has been in session for only four days in the last month.

Kentucky schools are required to have 170 instructional days, and officials decided to add some of the days in spring and the rest at the end of the school year, meaning students will get out of class in early June for summer break.
