Walker, Affrilachian Poets To Debut New Works Tonight At UK

UK Student Activities Board

To celebrate National Poetry month outgoing Kentucky Poet Laureate Frank X. Walker and his Affrilachian Poets will do readings of new material tonight in the WT Young Library.

"It's an Affrilachian Poet ritual to do what we call a 'dirty thirty', that's thirty poems in thirty days in April every poetry month," Walker told WUKY.  "We keep churning away and to bring some of the better ones to an audience is always an exciting thing to do," Walker said.

The poets will share their personal history of being a minority in the Appalachian area and how their identity has been shaped because of their ethnicity. Tonight’s lineup includes Bernard Clay, Ricardo Nazario Y Colon, Jude McPherson, and Bianca Spriggs.  The event gets under way at 6:30.  Additional information is available  here.
