Lexington, KY – The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved of the method it will use to ensure the confidentiality of candidates applying for the president's job; until the final stages of the search process. Trustee Chair Britt Brockman says there's only one way that the finalists' names will be released to the media.

"When we come to the three to five final candidates, all three or five would basically have to be unanimous in their decision to be vetted openly. That is a possibility, but it's highly unlikely."

Brockman says there's a more likely scenario that will play out before the new president is hired.

"One preferred candidate would be announced to the campus, but that candidate will not have been hired. No contracts will have been let at that point. That candidate will be vetted openly on campus to the different constituency groups; be they the staff, the students, or the faculty, and there will need to be a process which is yet to be determined whereas their input, those constituency groups' input can then be brought back to the board so that the board can understand that yes, this candidate is acceptable, or no, this candidate is unacceptable."

The Presidential Search Committee meets on Wednesday to discuss potential candidates.
