LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky is demanding a reporter withdraw an article that alleges the school paid money and other illegal benefits to a highly sought-after basketball recruit.

The story, written by Michael O'Brien, first appeared Wednesday afternoon on the Chicago Sun-Times website. O'Brien wrote that top 2011 recruit Anthony Davis will commit to Kentucky, and cites "rumors/sources" that the commitment cost $200,000.

The university has released a letter its legal team sent to the reporter, saying publishing false and unsubstantiated rumors constitutes defamation, and entitles UK and its coaching staff to take legal action. UK says it has never offered or paid any illegal benefits to the Davis family.
