Lexington, KY – Interim Police Chief Joe Monroe says for the past week or so, uniformed officers have been patrolling the campus on electric-powered motorcycles. Monroe says the Vectrix motorcycle has a top speed of 62 miles per hour, and can go up to 50 miles on a single charge. He says the electric motorcycle helps the university reduce its carbon footprint and save money on fuel costs. UK is one of about a dozen other police agencies across the country using the all-electric vehicle. Another Vectrix is being employed at nearby Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
