UK Plans Six Percent Tuition Hike - Three Percent Salary Raises

By WUKY Staff

Lexington, KY – The University of Kentucky plans to raise tuition next fall an additional six percent, and UK President Lee Todd says he is creating a three percent salary increase pool for all non-healthcare employee departments, as well as a freeze on healthcare premiums.

In a campus wide email this afternoon, President Todd says addressing salary issues is vital in order for the university to progress with its Top Twenty mission. Todd says the salary pool will cost the university an additional 11 million dollars, and with a reduction in state support the school is facing a deficit of 35 million dollars for 2011 - 2012.

The school plans to use carry-over funds from this year, plus the tuition hike, and departmental cuts to bring the budget into balance. The university will hold a budget forum to talk about the situation on Monday.
