UK - Norton To Team Up On "Kentucky Uglies"

By Associated Press

Lexington, KY – The University of Kentucky is teaming with one of the state's largest hospital systems to try and tackle some of Kentucky's most pressing health problems.

UK HealthCare and Norton Healthcare said Tuesday they'll work together to try to reduce cancer, strokes and obesity in a state that ranks high in all three categories.

Researchers from Norton Cancer Institute and UK Markey Cancer Center will collaborate on research and clinical trials with an emphasis on prevention and early diagnosis.

UK HealthCare and Norton Healthcare will work with community hospitals to provide stroke screenings and training to treat stroke victims. The two partners also will create a statewide stroke registry.

Meanwhile, Louisville-based Norton will expand its weight management services to Lexington.

The two health-care heavyweights announced their alliance late last year.
