The University of Kentucky celebrated cultural diversity with a feast. Reporter Chase Cavanaugh has the details.
From Sushi and Falafel to Tortillas and Beer Cheese, world foods filled UK’s Student Center. This smorgasbord was part of Taste of Our World, an annual feast. Larry Crouch, Vice President for Student Affairs, says the event is more popular than ever.
"At this point in time, the facility just opened and we’ve probably already had a thousand people here," he said.
Taste kicks off UK’s 25th annual Cultural Diversity Festival, a month long celebration of currently in its 25th year. International students play a large part, showing off aspects of their cultures, as well as dedicated members of the UK community. For Taste, Crouch says it wasn’t difficult to find able bodies.
“Most of our volunteers have done this year in and year out, and they just love serving the people and interacting. The committee is strictly volunteer. There’s 15 members of the committee plus numerous students that work on this project throughout the year," he said.
Those volunteers will run a series of cultural workshop throughout the month as well as an intercultural variety show at the Lyric in late March.
