Lexington, KY – Wednesday, Leaders from across the state were on hand to watch a giant crane raise, and then lower a specially autographed steel beam into place as part of a special "topping out" ceremony.
Governor Steve Beshear says the one point two million square foot hospital will be a tremendous asset for the Commonwealth and beyond.

Kentucky is showing tremendous leadership in the healthcare field. As one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the country, the new UK hospital is setting the standard for medical centers all across this country. This is an immense accomplishment that will have far reaching effects.

UK executive vice president for health affairs Michael Karpf says, when completed, the 700 million dollar hospital will be one of the most state of the art facilities in America. Officials say the hospital will gradually open for business, starting with the emergency department in summer 2010.
